Like many areas of Manchester, Ancoats has had some movable boundaries. With population flows, regeneration and re-branding, Ancoats has sometimes found itself losing some of its identity.

However, the helpful Ancoats Building Preservation Trust has put together a map that it uses to define Ancoats. We’re going to use this to help us, but it’s by no means restrictive.

There is, of course, the obligatory Google Maps link. This doesn’t show a boundary, but demonstrates how the name Ancoats is positioned on Great Ancoats Street, yet extends north-east.
